The ICON Auto CPAP machine with built-in heated humidifier and SenseAwake is a step up, a big improvement over the SleepStyle 200 Auto series, The ICON has both SensAwake pressure relief and ThermoSmart humidification.
The built-in heated humidifier and heated hose delivers condensation-free humidification at the touch of a button. The ICON Auto is great for home or travel. Also some great features like an alarm clock and the AUTO can even wake you up with your favorite music each morning to start your day, after you've had a good night's sleep.
The ICON Auto comes with added Simplicity, Simplified user experience, Simplified menu for patients. The new patient mode offers easy access to the three most commonly used settings (on/off, ramp, humidity).
These features help minimize patient set up time and instructions, making it easy to get a good night's sleep.
Special Features
The ICON Auto uses a flow-based auto-adjusting algorithm to continually check for flow limitations, apneas, and hypopneas on a breath-by-breath basis. When an event occurs, the Auto algorithm begins to increase pressure until the obstruction clears or the maximum pressure setting is reached.
SensAwake Technology
SensAwake is a pressure relief technology. We all experience subconscious waking through the night at which time pressure intolerance is likely to occur, SensAwake monitors CPAP airflow and reduces pressure levels when respiration becomes irregular. Irregular breathing is a general marker that a user is transitioning from a sleep state to an awakened state.
The SensAwake prevents users from awakening and ultimately improves therapy effectiveness for a restful night of sleep.
ThermoSmart Humidification
ThermoSmart Technology delivers custom levels of high humidity that are maintained throughout the night, regardless of ambient temperature. The ICON uses sensors that track ambient room temperature to reduce condensation.

- Lowers nasal airway resistance for 10% lower pressure
- Eliminates condensation even in a cool sleeping environment while delivering high levels of humidity.
- As effective as a nasal steroid in improving compliance and nasal symptoms
If condensation forms in the CPAP tubing system, sleep quality is considerably reduced. When using CPAP therapy in a cool room, the use of a heated humidifier with a heated breathing tube greatly improves the quality of your sleep.
Optional ThermoSmart Heated Breathing Tube
Fisher and Paykel offers a Fisher & Paykel ICON ThermoSmart Heated CPAP Tubing that works in conjunction with ThermoSmart Technology.
This heated CPAP hose contains copper coils embedded in tubing and is 76.5 inches in length. These coils conduct heat and can provide a constant temperature throughout the hose.
The optional ThermoSmart breathing tube virtually eliminates rain-out and condensation in a CPAP hose.
SmartDial: Sleep Data & User Functions
The default menu for the Icon is the Simple Mode which can be reached by pressing the SmartDial on the front of the machine.
Features of the SmartDial are:
- Humidity: Turn smart dial to select desired humidity and press again to select the level.
- Sleep Data: Press and hold for 7 seconds, turning the dial to move through compliance information.
- Ramp: With machine air flowing, press and hold for 3 seconds to turn on ramp.
Data Communication
InfoSend View: The patient can relay sleep data from the display screen of the machine, which can then be verified using the F&P InfoSmart software.
The physical SmartStick can be sent via the mail for data download, or the sleep data can be sent electronically via the web.
Data Reporting
The ICON AUTO's USB SmartStick will record up to 365 days of summary compliance and efficacy data, 30 days of detailed efficacy data (AHI, Pressure, Leak), and cumulative data from the machine's first use.
Compliance statistics can be viewed on the ICON's screen. More advanced information can be viewed using Fisher & Paykel's InfoSmart Software.
